Data

Data and sources

This site is built entirely from public data: open data and official government pages. Here are the 54 open data sources that feed it, who publishes each one, and its licence. Each record on the site keeps the licence of its source.

Licences

Contains information licensed under the Open Government Licence – Canada. It also contains information licensed under the Statistics Canada Open Licence; the Open Government Licences of Alberta, British Columbia, New Brunswick, Nova Scotia and Ontario; and the open government licences of Calgary, Edmonton, Halifax, Ottawa, Regina and Toronto. Other records come under the MIT Licence, the OpenMB Information and Data Use Licence and the Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 licence (CC BY 4.0). Some records are in the public domain under CC0 1.0.

To reuse a record, credit its source the way its licence asks, and link the page on this site you took it from.

We use 54 more sources only to cross-check what is here. The site shows nothing from them.

Public bodies and their websites

Who the public bodies are, how they relate to each other, and their official websites.

Places to go

Hospitals, clinics, schools, libraries, recreation centres, service counters, police and fire stations, and courthouses.

Descriptions and populations

The short description on each public body's page, and the population of each municipality.

For the descriptions, a script queries Wikidata through QLever, the University of Freiburg's public Wikidata service, because Wikidata's own query service asks scripts not to use it. When no source has a description, the page gives one plain sentence built from the body's own record.

Service facts and payment dates

The facts on service pages, like fees, steps and processing times, and the benefit payment dates come from the official page each one names. That page and the date it was checked sit next to each fact.

Approved, not on the site yet

These 31 sources are approved for use, but nothing from them is on the site yet. Each row shows what its publisher says about reuse.

Use the data

Look things up with the JSON API, or the MCP server for AI assistants. Every page also has a Markdown copy at its address plus .md, and a JSON copy at .json.

There is no bulk download. The API and the MCP server return at most 25 results a request, each with a link to its page.

Canada Service Map is independent and not a government website. The official page always has the final word.
